Kelly forceps clamp medium vessels and are also widely used as general-purpose tissue clamps. The partial serration is the defining feature: because only the distal half of the jaw is grooved, the instrument grips at the tip while the smooth proximal section is less traumatic to surrounding tissue. This is the practical difference from a Crile, which is serrated along the whole jaw.
Kelly forceps are frequently confused with Crile forceps in ordering, since both are around 14 cm and look similar at a glance. On private-label runs we recommend a distinct catalog number and clear laser marking to prevent mixed stock.
