Hohmann Retractors — Pattern and Clinical Use
The Hohmann works as a lever rather than a hook. Its pointed tip is placed over the far side of the bone to anchor, then the handle is levered so the broad blade sweeps soft tissue clear of the operative field — which is exactly how the femur and acetabulum are exposed in hip arthroplasty and how bone is exposed in fracture surgery.
Blade width and tip length are the ordering variables, and both matter clinically: too short a tip does not anchor and the retractor slips, while blade width determines how much tissue is held. Narrow-tipped patterns are used where the anchor point is confined.

Material, Finish and Quality Control

Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on tip strength under levering load, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
