Nasal Rasps — Pattern and Clinical Use
After a dorsal hump is reduced with an osteotome, the bony edge is refined with a rasp until the profile is smooth. Coarse rasps take down bulk; fine rasps finish the surface. The rasp is worked in one direction only, and cut direction is oriented so the instrument cuts on the pull stroke away from the skin envelope raised above it.
Tooth uniformity determines whether the dorsum ends up smooth or chattered, and a chattered dorsum is visible and palpable in the healed result. Rasps are supplied in graduated cuts and in straight, convex and angled profiles.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge nasal rasps from AISI 420 martensitic stainless. Tooth height and cut direction are checked for uniformity, since uneven teeth chatter and leave a palpable irregularity in the dorsum. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on tooth uniformity and cut direction, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
