Nail Splitters — Pattern and Clinical Use
In partial nail avulsion, a strip of nail must be divided along its length from the free edge back to the matrix so the offending portion can be removed. The splitter’s lower jaw slides beneath the nail plate against the bed, and the upper blade cuts down onto it — dividing the nail cleanly without gouging the sensitive bed beneath.
The lower anvil must be thin enough to slide under the nail plate but smooth enough not to damage the bed, which is the design tension in this instrument. Blade-to-anvil alignment determines whether the split is clean or ragged.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Nail Splitters from AISI 420 martensitic stainless. Blade-to-anvil alignment is gauged and the anvil face polished, since a misaligned blade splits raggedly and a rough anvil damages the nail bed. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on blade-to-anvil alignment and anvil finish, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
