Elastrators — Pattern and Clinical Use
The elastrator stretches a small heavy rubber ring across four prongs so it can be passed over the scrotum or tail base and released. The ring constricts the blood supply and the tissue distal to it atrophies and drops off. It is a bloodless, low-cost method used at scale on lambs and calves, where speed and simplicity matter more than instrument sophistication.
Prong geometry determines how far the ring stretches and how cleanly it releases. Prongs that are too short do not open the ring enough for placement; prongs that splay under tension release the ring unpredictably.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Elastrators from AISI 420 martensitic stainless. Prong length and splay under tension are checked so the ring opens fully and releases predictably every time. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on prong geometry under ring tension, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
