Bipolar Forceps — Pattern and Clinical Use
In bipolar diathermy the circuit runs only between the two forceps tips, so the current path is confined to the tissue actually grasped. That makes bipolar the technique of choice in neurosurgery, ophthalmic and microsurgery, and anywhere near nerves or in patients with implanted devices, because no return electrode is needed and no current traverses the body.
Tip-to-tip gap and non-stick performance are the two things surgeons judge these on. Eschar building on the tips degrades coagulation and pulls tissue away when the forceps are opened, which is why non-stick tip treatments and irrigating patterns are widely specified.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Bipolar forceps from 316L austenitic stainless. Tip-to-tip gap is gauged and shank insulation tested, since gap consistency determines whether coagulation is even along the working length. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on tip gap and shank insulation, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
