Crile Forceps — Pattern and Clinical Use
Crile forceps clamp medium-sized vessels and are used constantly as general tissue clamps. Full-length serrations are the defining feature: the grip is distributed evenly along the whole jaw rather than concentrated at the tip, which gives a more secure hold on a vessel but is slightly more traumatic to tissue than a partially serrated Kelly.
Crile and Kelly forceps are the pair most often confused at the ordering stage because they share a length and overall profile. The serration pattern is the only reliable way to tell them apart in a tray.
