Iris Scissors — Pattern and Clinical Use
Iris scissors are used for precision cutting of fine tissue and suture in a shallow field. The short, sharp blades and small finger rings give close control, which is why they migrated well beyond ophthalmology into dermatology, plastic surgery, dental practice and laboratory work. Standard length is around 9–11.5 cm, with straight and curved blades both in common use.
Because the tips are genuinely sharp and fine, tip integrity is the critical quality point — a slightly misaligned or burred tip makes the instrument useless for the delicate work it exists to do.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge iris scissors from AISI 420 martensitic stainless. Tips are inspected under magnification for meeting and burr, because a fine sharp tip is where any grinding fault shows first. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on tip meeting under magnification, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
