Emasculators — Pattern and Clinical Use
An emasculator does two jobs at once: a crushing jaw compresses the cord to achieve haemostasis while a cutting blade severs it distal to the crush. The order matters — the crushing face must always be positioned toward the animal so the retained stump is sealed. Patterns differ mainly in jaw length and in whether the crush and cut are on the same jaw or opposed.
Blade-to-crush alignment is the critical tolerance. If the blade cuts before the crush is complete the animal bleeds, which makes this one of the few veterinary instruments where a manufacturing fault has an immediate welfare consequence.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge emasculators from AISI 420 martensitic stainless. Crush-before-cut timing is verified on every unit, since a blade that severs before the crush is complete causes haemorrhage. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on crush-before-cut sequencing, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
