Liston Bone Cutters — Pattern and Clinical Use
The Liston is the classic single-action bone cutter. Its heavy blades divide small long bones, phalanges, ribs and bone graft in one squeeze, with the whole hand force transmitted directly to the cutting edges. Straight patterns cut across the bone in the line of approach; angled patterns cut where the handles would otherwise foul surrounding tissue.
Because it is single-action, cutting capacity is limited by hand strength — which is exactly why compound-action Stille cutters exist for heavier bone. Buyers should carry both rather than expecting one to do everything.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Liston bone cutters from AISI 420 martensitic stainless. Blade edges are hardness-tested and the box joint checked for side play, since blades that separate under load crush rather than cut. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on blade hardness and joint side play, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
