Electrosurgical Pencils — Pattern and Clinical Use
The pencil is the surgeon’s interface with the diathermy generator. It holds the active electrode, and hand-control buttons on the body select cut or coagulate without the surgeon looking away from the field. Foot-control versions leave the pencil buttonless and switch at the pedal instead, which some surgeons prefer for a slimmer handpiece.
Reusable pencils must survive repeated autoclaving with their insulation and switch mechanism intact — insulation failure is the safety concern, because a breach anywhere along the body can deliver current to the surgeon’s hand or to unintended tissue.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Electrosurgical pencils from 316L austenitic stainless. Insulation integrity is tested after autoclave cycling, since a breach anywhere on the body can deliver current to the surgeon or unintended tissue. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on insulation integrity after autoclaving, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
