Muscle Hooks — Pattern and Clinical Use
In strabismus surgery a rectus muscle must be located beneath the conjunctiva, engaged and lifted clear so it can be measured, disinserted and reattached. The muscle hook slides under the muscle belly and lifts it — the tip is deliberately blunt and bulbous because it is passed blind against the sclera, where a sharp point would risk perforation of the globe.
Tip bulb size and shaft curvature define the pattern: Jameson hooks have a flattened tip that holds the muscle securely, Green hooks are narrower for isolation, and Stevens hooks are the smallest for tenotomy work.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Muscle hooks from 316L austenitic stainless. Tip bulbs are polished and gauged for radius, since the hook is passed blind against the sclera where a sharp tip risks perforation. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on tip bulb radius and polish, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
