Deaver Retractors — Pattern and Clinical Use
The Deaver is reached for when the field is deep. Its long curved blade slides into the abdomen and holds viscera or the wound edge clear over a wide contact area, spreading the load so tissue is not damaged by prolonged pressure. Blade widths run from narrow patterns for confined access up to broad blades for holding a substantial mass of tissue.
Blade curvature and width are the whole specification. Because the blade sits against viscera for extended periods, edge radius and surface polish matter directly to tissue safety rather than just to appearance.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Deaver retractors from 316L austenitic stainless. Blade edges are radiused and the surface polished to a consistent finish, because the blade rests against viscera for long periods. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on edge radius and surface polish, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
