Payr Pylorus Clamps — Pattern and Clinical Use
The Payr is a crushing clamp, not an atraumatic one. Its long, heavy parallel jaws close along their entire length under substantial force to seal the stomach or bowel completely during resection, controlling spillage where a soft occlusion clamp would leak. It is used deliberately on tissue that is going to be divided and removed.
Because the jaws are long and the clamping force high, jaw parallelism is critical. Jaws that close first at the tip or first at the hinge will crush unevenly and leave part of the lumen unsealed.

We forge Payr pylorus clamps from AISI 420 martensitic stainless. Jaw parallelism is checked along the full closing length, because jaws that meet first at the tip or hinge crush unevenly and leave the lumen unsealed. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on jaw parallelism along full length, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
