Gelpi Retractors — Pattern and Clinical Use
The Gelpi anchors at exactly two points. Each arm ends in a single sharp tip that engages tissue, and the ratchet holds the arms apart. That two-point design gives a clear, unobstructed view into a small incision — there are no multiple prongs crowding the wound edge — which is why it is favoured in spinal, orthopedic and veterinary procedures where visibility in a narrow field matters.
Because all retraction load passes through two points, tip strength and the angle at which the points engage are critical. A bent or blunted Gelpi tip will not hold and can slip out of the wound under tension.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Gelpi retractors from 316L austenitic stainless. Point strength and engagement angle are checked, since all retraction load on this pattern passes through just two tips. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on point strength and engagement angle, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
