Dental Mirrors — Pattern and Clinical Use
A dental mirror does three jobs at once: it shows surfaces the operator cannot see directly, it retracts the cheek or tongue away from the working area, and it reflects operatory light onto the tooth. Mirror heads are sized by number, and front-surface mirrors — where the reflective coating sits on the front of the glass rather than behind it — eliminate the double image that a rear-surface mirror produces.
Head sizes are quoted by number, commonly No. 4 and No. 5 for general adult use with smaller sizes for paediatric and posterior access. Handles are threaded so heads can be replaced without discarding the handle.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge dental mirrors from 316L austenitic stainless. Coating adhesion and edge sealing are checked, since a mirror that delaminates at the rim after repeated autoclaving is the standard failure mode. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on coating adhesion and rim seal, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
