Hoof Rasps — Pattern and Clinical Use
Nippers remove bulk wall; the rasp finishes the job. One face carries a coarse rasp cut for rapid levelling of the bearing surface, the other a finer file cut for smoothing the wall and finishing the outer surface after shoeing. Because the bearing surface must be flat for the shoe to seat correctly, rasp flatness directly affects how the shoe fits.
The rasp is a genuine consumable — teeth dull with use and a blunt rasp skids rather than cutting, so professional farriers replace them frequently. Tooth cut and pattern determine both cutting speed and the smoothness of the finish.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge hoof rasps from AISI 420 martensitic stainless. Rasp faces are checked for flatness and uniform tooth height, because a rasp that is not flat cannot level a bearing surface for the shoe. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on face flatness and tooth uniformity, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is a rasp double-sided?
One face is a coarse rasp cut for rapid levelling, the other a finer file cut for smoothing and finishing. Both are needed in a single trim.
How often do rasps need replacing?
Frequently in professional use. Teeth dull and a blunt rasp skids rather than cutting, so farriers treat them as a consumable.
Why does flatness matter?
The bearing surface must be flat for the shoe to seat correctly. A rasp that is not true cannot produce a flat surface.
Can you manufacture these under our own brand?
Yes — full OEM and private label. We laser-mark your logo and catalog numbers, pack in your branded boxes, and work from your drawings, tech pack or a reference sample, with a pre-production sample approved before any bulk run.
Send your pattern list, drawing or a reference sample and we’ll quote MOQ, pricing and lead time — standard catalog or fully private-label.
