The alligator design solves a specific problem: in a narrow ear or nasal canal there is no room for scissor-action handles. The jaws are actuated by a rod running down the shaft, so only the small jaws move at the tip while the operator’s hand stays clear of the canal and the line of sight. That makes them the standard instrument for grasping foreign bodies, ventilation tubes and packing material.
Jaw serration and exact tip meeting determine whether a small smooth object — a bead, a battery, a grommet — is grasped or pushed deeper, which is the difference between a successful removal and a referral.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Alligator forceps from AISI 420 martensitic stainless. Tip meeting is checked under magnification and the actuating rod cycled, since the jaws must close positively on small smooth objects. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on tip meeting and rod action, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
