The snare loop is passed over the tonsil after dissection and drawn tight, crushing the pedicle as it divides it — which controls bleeding at the same time as removing the tissue. The wire is consumable and replaced for each case. Although diathermy and coblation have replaced snares in many centres, the technique remains in use and the instrument is still requested.

Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on smooth progressive wire draw, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
