Bulldog Clamps — Pattern and Clinical Use
A bulldog is applied and released with an applying forceps and holds by its own spring — which makes it fast to place and remove, and small enough to leave in a confined field without obstructing the surgeon. They are the standard choice for temporarily occluding small and medium vessels during microvascular, transplant and peripheral vascular work.
Spring force is the entire specification and must be matched to vessel calibre: too strong and the clamp damages the wall, too weak and it leaks or slips off. Sets are supplied with graduated spring strengths and jaw lengths for that reason.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Bulldog clamps from AISI 420 martensitic stainless. Spring force is measured against the pattern’s target range, since force must match vessel calibre to occlude without damaging the wall. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on spring force to target range, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
