Fogarty Clamps — Pattern and Clinical Use
Where even a finely serrated metal jaw is too aggressive — a fragile, calcified or previously grafted vessel — a Fogarty clamp adds a soft polymer insert between metal and vessel. The insert distributes pressure across the whole contact area and grips without any point loading, giving the gentlest occlusion available. Inserts are removable and replaced when worn.
Insert retention is the practical issue: an insert that works loose during a procedure is both a clamp failure and a foreign-body risk, so the retention mechanism matters more than the insert material itself.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Fogarty clamps from AISI 420 martensitic stainless. Insert retention is tested under closing load, since an insert working loose during a procedure is a foreign-body risk. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on insert retention under load, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
