Where a rongeur nibbles, a bone cutter divides. Its heavy opposed blades close through the bone in one action, cutting ribs, small long bones, phalanges and bone graft. Blade profile determines the cut: straight blades divide across, angled and curved blades reach around bone that cannot be approached directly. Compound-action patterns generate the force needed for larger bone.
Because the whole hand force is concentrated on two blade edges, blade hardness and joint strength determine both cut quality and safety. A blade that chips under load leaves fragments in the wound.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge bone cutters from AISI 420 martensitic stainless. Blades are hardness-tested and the joint proof-loaded, since a blade that chips under load leaves fragments in the wound. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on blade hardness and joint strength, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
