K-wires are used constantly in fracture fixation and must be trimmed to length once placed, often in a confined field with the wire already in bone. These cutters combine a compound linkage for force with a jaw geometry that reaches the wire close to the skin, and they must cut hardened wire without deflecting it — a wire that bends rather than cuts loses its fixation position.
Because the wire is already in the patient, the cut must be clean and the instrument must not transmit bending force to the wire. Carbide inserts are effectively standard, and cutting capacity must match the K-wire diameters in use.
