Michel clips predate modern staplers and remain in use where a simple, economical metal closure is wanted. The applying forceps holds the clip and compresses it across apposed wound edges so its points engage the skin either side. Removal uses a different forceps that spreads the clip open, releasing the points without dragging them through tissue.
Applying and removing forceps are distinct instruments and must be ordered as a pair with the clips — a common gap in catalogs. Clip size must match the forceps jaw geometry.
