
Ligature Scissors — Pattern and Clinical Use
A ligature must be cut close enough to the knot that no long tail is left in the wound, but not so close that the knot itself is compromised. Ligature scissors have a blade geometry — often with a small notch or angle — that lets the tips slide down the suture to the knot and cut at a controlled distance above it, which is difficult with a plain straight blade.
Tip fineness matters because the cut is made in a confined space alongside the knot, often at depth. Angled patterns let the surgeon reach a knot lying at the bottom of a narrow field.
