The applier does three things: it retains the clip securely while it is carried to the wound, positions it precisely across the apposed edges, and compresses it to a consistent closed geometry. Consistency matters because a clip closed too far cuts into skin while one closed too little fails to hold the edges together.
Jaw grooves must match the clip profile exactly. An applier that lets the clip rotate or shift as it closes produces an angled clip that grips unevenly, which is the common complaint with poorly made appliers.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Wound Clip Appliers from 316L austenitic stainless. Jaw grooves are gauged to the clip profile so the clip cannot rotate or shift while closing. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on jaw groove to clip profile, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
