Ligature Carriers — Pattern and Clinical Use
Tying off a vessel or pedicle deep in a cavity means getting a ligature behind it, which is impossible by hand. The carrier’s curved tip is passed around the structure and the ligature is threaded through its eye, so withdrawing the instrument draws the ligature into position. Deschamps patterns are the classic design, supplied curved left and right for approach from either side.
The tip must be blunt so it passes behind a structure without injuring it, while the eye must be smooth so the ligature runs freely rather than catching or fraying as it is drawn through.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge ligature carriers from 316L austenitic stainless. Tips are checked blunt and the ligature eye polished, so the instrument passes safely and the ligature runs without fraying. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on tip bluntness and eye finish, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
