A probe traces the depth and direction of a wound or sinus tract, which determines how it must be treated — a tract that runs deeper than expected changes the management entirely. The tip is deliberately bulbous and the shaft malleable, so the probe follows the natural course of a tract rather than creating a false passage through healthy tissue.
Malleability with retained shape is the specification: the operator bends the probe to match what the tract is doing, and it must hold that bend without springing back. Surfaces must be polished since the probe passes through tissue that is often already inflamed.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Examination probes from 316L austenitic stainless. Temper is set so the probe holds a formed bend without springing back, and surfaces polished for passage through inflamed tissue. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on temper retention and surface polish, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
