Nail Files — Pattern and Clinical Use
Filing shapes the nail edge after cutting and smooths any roughness that would catch. Metal files are durable and sterilisable, which is what professional and podiatric settings need, while the direction of the cut matters — filing in one direction rather than sawing back and forth avoids splitting the layered structure of the nail plate.
Cut grade determines the finish: coarse cuts shape quickly but leave a rough edge that needs finishing, fine cuts smooth without removing much material. Sterilisable stainless files are what distinguish professional instruments from consumer emery boards.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Nail files from AISI 420 martensitic stainless. Cut uniformity is checked across the file face and autoclave resistance verified for professional patterns. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on cut uniformity and autoclave resistance, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
Who Sources Nail Files From Surgical Star
Metal nail files sell to salon and podiatry distributors where sterilisation is required, and into retail private-label sets as the durable alternative to emery boards.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why file in one direction?
Sawing back and forth splits the layered structure of the nail plate. Filing in one direction shapes the edge without causing that damage.
Metal or emery board?
Metal files are durable and sterilisable, which professional and podiatric settings require. Emery boards are single-client consumables.
What cut should we stock?
Double-sided coarse and fine files are the most practical, letting the user shape and then finish with one instrument.
Can you manufacture these under our own brand?
Yes — full OEM and private label. We laser-mark your logo and catalog numbers, pack in your branded boxes, and work from your drawings, tech pack or a reference sample, with a pre-production sample approved before any bulk run.
Send your pattern list, drawing or a reference sample and we’ll quote MOQ, pricing and lead time — standard catalog or fully private-label.
