Leksell Rongeurs — Pattern and Clinical Use
Where a Kerrison shears against a footplate, the Leksell bites bone directly between two cupped jaws. The double-action linkage multiplies force so it can remove substantial pieces of lamina, spinous process or skull, which makes it the bulk bone-removal instrument of spinal surgery — used to clear the way before finer Kerrison work near the dura.
Because it bites without a protective footplate, the Leksell is used where there is bone to spare rather than immediately over neural tissue. Jaw hardness and the double-action linkage tolerances determine both cut quality and service life.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Leksell rongeurs from AISI 420 martensitic stainless. Jaw hardness and double-action linkage tolerances are both tested, since accumulated play lets jaws separate under bone-cutting load. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on jaw hardness and linkage play, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
Who Sources Leksell Rongeurs From Surgical Star
Leksell rongeurs sell to spinal and neurosurgical distributors as the bulk bone-removal complement to Kerrison patterns, and are a durable high-value item.
OEM, Certification and Ordering
Every Leksell rongeurs can be produced as a private-label line: your logo laser-marked on the shank, your catalog numbers, and your own printed packaging, manufactured from your drawings or a reference sample. Manufactured under an ISO 13485 quality system, CE-marked to EU MDR 2017/745 and covered by US FDA establishment registration. A certificate of conformity and an ASTM F899 material certificate for the exact steel grade ship with your order.
MOQs are low and new-brand friendly, and vary with pattern, finish and branding. Pricing is direct from the factory and tiered by volume. After you approve a branded pre-production sample, bulk production typically runs four to six weeks and ships worldwide DDP with HS codes handled. See how OEM & private label works →

Frequently Asked Questions
When is a Leksell used rather than a Kerrison?
For bulk bone removal where there is bone to spare. Kerrison rongeurs are used for precise work immediately over the dura, protected by their footplate.
Why double action?
The linkage multiplies force, which is needed to bite through dense lamina and spinous process.
Does it have a footplate?
No — it bites directly between two cupped jaws, which is why it is used away from neural tissue rather than over it.
Can you manufacture these under our own brand?
Yes — full OEM and private label. We laser-mark your logo and catalog numbers, pack in your branded boxes, and work from your drawings, tech pack or a reference sample, with a pre-production sample approved before any bulk run.
Send your pattern list, drawing or a reference sample and we’ll quote MOQ, pricing and lead time — standard catalog or fully private-label.
