The lead carries high-frequency current from the generator to the active instrument, and its insulation confines that current to the intended path. Connector type at each end must match both the instrument and the generator, which is why leads are specified by fitting rather than generically — a lead that does not match the installed generator base is unusable regardless of quality.
Leads are a wear item: repeated coiling, autoclaving and handling eventually fatigue the conductor and crack the insulation. Insulation testing at intervals is standard practice, and leads are replaced rather than repaired.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Diathermy Leads from 316L austenitic stainless. Insulation is high-voltage tested and strain relief checked at both connectors, since fatigue at the connector is the usual failure point. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on insulation test and strain relief, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
