Adams pliers are the laboratory and chairside plier for removable appliance work. Their two square, flat, parallel beaks grip wire along a flat face, which lets the operator make sharp, precise angular bends — exactly what forming an Adams clasp arrowhead requires. Where a bird-beak makes curves, the Adams makes defined corners.
Beak parallelism is the critical dimension. If the flat faces do not meet in parallel, the wire is gripped at one edge only, and a sharp bend placed against a non-parallel face comes out twisted rather than square.
