Three-Prong Pliers — Pattern and Clinical Use
The three-prong plier bends wire between three points of contact rather than two, which lets the operator place a controlled offset or step in the middle of a wire span without distorting the sections either side. That is how clasps and appliance wirework are adjusted in situ — a two-point plier would simply bend the whole span.
The single prong must sit exactly midway between the opposing pair for the bend to be symmetrical. Prong alignment is therefore the defining manufacturing tolerance on this pattern.
