After nails are trimmed with nippers, the edges are left sharp and can catch on hosiery or press into the adjacent toe. A chiropody file smooths those edges to a rounded finish. The same instrument is used for fine work on small callused areas where a full callus rasp would be too coarse and remove too much.
Cut fineness distinguishes these from callus rasps: a chiropody file removes very little material per stroke, which is what makes it a finishing rather than a reducing instrument. Professional versions must be autoclavable.

Material, Finish and Quality Control

Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on cut fineness and autoclave resistance, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
