Band Pushers — Pattern and Clinical Use
Seating a molar band requires firm, controlled pressure applied to the band margin without slipping onto the cusp or the gingiva. The band pusher’s small serrated pad grips the band edge and transmits that pressure precisely. Most are double-ended with differently angled pads so the operator can reach both buccal and lingual margins without changing instruments.
The serration on the working pad is what stops the instrument skidding off the band under load. A smooth or worn pad slips, which is both ineffective and a soft-tissue risk.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge band pushers from AISI 420 martensitic stainless. Pad serration depth is checked, since a smooth or shallow pad slips off the band margin under seating pressure. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on pad serration depth, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
