Removing a cemented molar band means lifting the band margin without levering against enamel. This plier places a soft nylon pad on the occlusal surface as the fulcrum and hooks the band margin with a metal beak, so the lifting force is transmitted through the pad rather than through a metal point on the cusp. That protects the enamel and the opposing restoration.
