Nail Elevators — Pattern and Clinical Use
Before a nail or nail strip is removed, it must be freed from the bed beneath and the folds around it. The elevator’s thin flat blade is worked between plate and bed and advanced back toward the matrix, breaking the attachment gradually. Doing this properly is what allows the nail to be lifted cleanly rather than torn, which matters for both pain and healing.
The blade edge must be blunt but thin — thin enough to enter the space between plate and bed, blunt enough not to cut into the bed itself. Some patterns are double-ended with a narrow and a wider blade.

Material, Finish and Quality Control
We forge Nail elevators from 316L austenitic stainless. Blade thickness and edge bluntness are gauged together, since the blade must enter the plate-bed space without cutting into the bed. Each batch passes Rockwell hardness testing, dimensional checks on blade thinness with blunt edge, and visual inspection under our ISO 13485 system before passivation and final finishing. Mirror and satin finishes are both available — satin is usually specified where glare under operating lights is a concern.
